Meist About us

Whether you’re a competitor or a spectator, Eesti Spordiliit is committed to creating the sporting experiences and events that bring Estonians together to celebrate their friendships and culture.

Through your support, Eesti Spordiliit has served Estonian athletes and the North American Estonian community for over 60 years.
Eesti Spordiliit USA (ESL) was launched in 1954 following a September 18th East Coast Masters volley ball tournament at Pine Terrace New York.

The original seven founders/competitors who declared and inaugurated the organizations future activities included: Meinhard Kaju, Raimond Pals, Elam Piktjaan, Ernst Roost, Heinrich Savo, Ferdinand Tammann and Kalle Vellenurme. ESL first annual meeting took place on Jan 9th, 1955 at the NY Estonian House where the ESL charter and by-laws were sanctioned.

The primary goal of ESL was to develop and foster sporting activities and events amongst Estonian organizations throughout the USA.

The ESL emblem (logo) was developed by the artist Peet Aren and depicts Estonian folklore hero “Kalvipoeg” launching a large stone. An ESL flag bearing the emblem was also created in 1977 and is proudly displayed at ESL events.Over the years, ESL has been devoted to creating and sustaining sports related events for young Estonians.

Every summer ESL coordinates athletic events at Lakewood and Long Island that offer kids, teenagers and adults the opportunity to compete and bond with fellow Estonians.
Competitive events include: track & field, swimming, bowling, tennis, volleyball and golf.ESL has also been instrumental in helping to fund, build and sustain the sports venues that are used at these events e.g. swimming pool, volleyball, basketball, tennis courts along with track and field sites.

As you may have already heard, 2022 ESTO Ski will take place at the Jay Peak ski resort on March 10th through March 13th. Jay Peak is famous for the most snowfall of any east coast ski resort, short lift-lines, top notch terrain and a huge waterpark - the only one of its kind in the state.
The Eesti Spordiliit ESTO Ski weekend will feature our traditional group events including, Friday Apres-Ski mixer, Saturday downhill & cross-country ski races and awards party at night. Who knows…maybe we can even figure out some kind of competition for the waterpark!
CALL TO ACTION – 2 Important ItemsAfter a missed year, we hope that Jay will reignite the 60 year ESTO Ski tradition!
1)    Please reply to this email and let us know if you are a YES, MAYBE or a NO as we need to get a quick sense of group size so we can plan our events accordingly
2)    With March being a high demand period for JAY, lodging inventory is getting scooped up fast making it super important to book your accommodations ASAP. If you wait until last minute, you’ll likely be shut out!LODGINGS INFOAt Jay Peak, all lodging is located directly at the resort and free shuttle service is available so that ESTOS never have to use their vehicles while on site. Nearly all the lodging is ski-in/ski-out, including the privately owned 2,3,4 and 5-bedroom Village Condos located off the Village Chairlift. Some units including the 2-bedroom Cottages and Timberline Condos are a short shuttle ride to one of the two base areas, (Tramside or Stateside). Whether you stay in one of the Hotel suites, Condos, or Cottages, most of the lodging is within walking distance to a lift or is a very short shuttle ride.
HOW TO BOOK
Prior to calling the central reservations office at Jay Peak (800-451-4449) please visit the Jay Peak Resort website https://jaypeakresort.com/trip-planning/lodging for unit locations using the resort map link provided, unit descriptions and photos. The res agent will provide additional information about units and availability for the dates you are inquiring about. They will also be able to provide exact pricing based on how many adults or adults/juniors in the unit of your choice. Please note that all accommodations available through the Jay Peak central res office include daily lift tickets for your entire length of stay. Jay’s business model is “package only” - they do not offer separate lodging rates without lift tickets
PLEASE NOTE - ESTO Ski 2022 has secured a 25% discount off Jay Peak retail rates so be sure to mention/ask for the "Estonia Discount" as it will be provided across all units at the Jay Peak resort.
HERE’S A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES
- 4 adults staying in a 2-bedroom at the Cottages for 3 nights (Thursday March 10th to Sunday March 13th) would be $1716.75 Package includes lodging for 3 nights and lift tickets for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Another great option is the Stateside Hotel. If you’re 2 people looking to stay in a ski in/out suite with 2 queen beds at double occupancy, the rate per unit would be $1231.97. Package includes 3 nights lodging (Thursday March 10th to Sunday March 13th), 3 days of lift tickets and 3 breakfasts each at Howie’s Restaurant located in Stateside Hotel
For Our Canadian FriendsJay Peak maintains an “AT Par” policy for 50% of lodging cost. Here’s how it works - your initial deposit gets charged in US funds taken on your CDN credit card, it will be automatically converted from US to CDN at whatever rate your credit card company is using. The remaining 50% balance can be paid AT PAR, on check in with Canadian Cash, Certified Check or Money Order.
No exchange rate adjustments will be made for other payment types.Lastly, while the border currently remains closed to drive traffic, we assume that will change soon. Should we be looking at worst case scenario (closed border in March) Jay will refund all lodging deposits up until date of ESTO Ski.Lastly
Please keep an eye out for more info to follow regarding our sponsorships, social events, itinerary and costs. We hope you will plan to attend and help make more great ESTO Ski memories for 2022.
